Discover Gypsies Collection Story
I was sent to shoot in the Knyszyn Forest where Gypsy workshops were taking place. I met wonderful people there.
The atmosphere of the Gypsy music and dance had stolen my heart. What I saw around me I captured in frames. The trip was supposed to be for a while, its purpose was to take some photos for a news note in the "Daily Newspaper". I didn't return to work for a week.
Over the next year, I started to travel around the country and visit places where Roma live or appear - Czarna Góra, Limanowa, Tarnów - on All Saints' Day, Andawest at the Bródno Cemetery in Warsaw.
I have often photographed singer and composer Teresa Mirga and her band 'Kałe Bała' from Czarna Góra. Most of the photographs in the houses are taken in Czarna Góra near Bukowina Tatrzańska in Podhale. The photos are imbued with melancholy, more sadness than joy.
