Discover Coalmines Collection Story
You look South and see a range of mountains, beautiful, majestic. It's Pamir.
You look North and see a gigantic mine, shattering the landscape and your heart.
Lenin’s Peak, a peak in Trans-Alai mountain range in Pamir, Asia on the borders of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, second in height in the Pamir range. A mountain very popular among enthusiast alpinists, easy and accessible. Apparently very good as a trial run before conquering Mount Everest. People come from around the world to train, learn and admire the beauty of the Trans-Alai mountains.
The mine stands on the northern hill. Kyrgyzstan is one of the poorest countries in the world. The collapse of the USSR, which Kyrgyzstan was once a part of, didn’t bring a better way of life. Here, in Sary Mogul people dig up coal remains, as the last resort. Black market is blooming. This is how they sustain themselves.
Near the coal mine, whole families live in cold, crude huts. Workforce mainly consists of children, boys because they are the healthiest, strongest and most effective out of the whole community.
These two worlds never meet. That’s always the case, everywhere on Earth.
